Reverse outer boom

The crane’s telescopic boom features a reverse outer boom that can be raised up to 15°, significantly expanding the working area typically limited by the overhead line system. This, in turn, broadens the crane’s range of applications – including by enabling more efficient installation and maintenance of noise barriers alongside the tracks.

Linkage system for near-constant lifting capacity

The linkage system provides a near-constant lifting capacity, regardless of boom position. Consequently, operators experience no significant loss of performance in unfavorable boom positions. This enables precise maneuvering, especially in restricted-height settings – such as under an overhead line or when the height limiter is activated.

The intelligent HPSC stability system continuously calculates the crane’s maximum load capacity. It achieves this by monitoring the outrigger positions, slewing angle, vehicle frame deflection, the position of up to two other Palfinger units mounted on the same vehicle, and the crane’s inclination. Accounting for the crane’s inclination typically results in an impressive 80% increase in lifting capacity on straight, non-elevated track sections – and in some cases, even more.

Radio remote control

All models in the Basic line come with radio remote control as standard. This ensures safe, ergonomic, and efficient crane operation, allowing the operator to stay close to the load being handled. The operator can also position themselves safely within restricted track areas.

Highlights

Emergency control stand

The emergency control stand, which can be positioned anywhere on the vehicle, permits emergency operation in the event of a remote control outage or power supply failure. This enables the operator to control the crane from a safe position.

Lifting capacity optimization taking into account the track's superelevation

The strengths of PALFINGER railway systems come to the fore when operating on sections of track with significant cant. State-of-the-art sensors integrate inclination data in stability calculations in real time. This allows the crane’s lifting capacity to be continuously controlled at inclinations from 0° to 15°, eliminating the need for general load reductions.

Lateral and vertical movement limiters

The Railway Premium line’s parametric lateral and vertical movement limiters provide maximum range of motion with the highest level of safety (PLd as defined in EN 13849). The limit curves are calculated based on the specific track and vehicle parameters and corresponding safety measures in accordance with EN 14033. Paltronic relies on state-of-the-art sensors for dynamic, real-time monitoring of the crane’s position to prevent unsafe movements. An optional feature permits storage of up to four different lateral limit curves and three vertical height limit curves.

The Paltronic crane control system and its connected sensor system achieve Performance Level d (PLd) as defined in ISO 13849-1 for all relevant safety features.

Electrical earthing

PALFINGER relies on highly flexible earthing cables to ensure excellent protection against electric shocks. Every component – from the base to the crane tip – is connected with 2×50 mm² earth cables. Transparent insulation allows easy inspection of the cables for breaks or carbonization damage caused by stray currents. Units equipped with a work basket are also equipped with corresponding earth cables.
