Safe and Autonomous Offshore Operations

PALFINGER MARINE’s fully electric jib cranes are designed for use on low‑manned and unmanned offshore installations, ensuring maximum safety and reliability. Autonomous features eliminate human error, helping achieve zero accidents and removing personnel from the critical loading area.

Remote Control and Intelligent Integration

The advanced control system enables fully remote operation from onshore control centers, including start‑up procedures, diagnostics, and logistics functions. Operators can immediately log in across various platforms, ensuring seamless, real‑time system monitoring and support.

Energy Efficiency

These cranes consume only 30–50 percent of the power required by conventional offshore cranes, reducing energy waste and emissions. Combined with their fully electric design, no exposed components in parked position, and fewer helicopter transfers, PALFINGER’s solution delivers safe and cost‑effective offshore performance.

Applications

Oil & Gas

PALFINGER MARINE’s fully electric jib cranes set new standards for safety, efficiency, and environmental performance in offshore operations. With outreach ranges of 30–40 meters and lifting capacities between 30 and 70 tons, these cranes combine high performance with reliable protection against harsh conditions. When parked, all components are enclosed, ensuring durability, while an advanced HVAC system maintains optimal internal operating conditions. The fully electric drive system enables precise, eco‑friendly crane movements and allows for remote operation from an onshore control room, minimizing the need for on‑site personnel. When local control is required, a dedicated operator cabin is available. For enhanced safety, each crane includes a battery reserve capable of positioning the system safely in case of a power loss. Its energy‑efficient drive system features a common DC bus and energy regeneration, delivering substantial power savings and reduced CO₂ emissions compared to traditional hydraulic cranes. Designed for high‑risk offshore operations, the cranes can also function as personnel lifts, supported by built‑in redundancy systems for maximum operational safety.

PALFINGER

Wind

Designed for the demanding conditions of offshore wind operations, PALFINGER MARINE’s fully electric jib cranes deliver powerful performance with outreach ranges of 20–30 meters and lifting capacities of 10–20 tons. Their fully electric drive system ensures an eco‑friendly, low‑maintenance solution while enabling remote operation to reduce on‑site personnel and enhance safety. With their compact design, these cranes offer a space‑efficient solution ideal for offshore wind farms where deck space is limited. Critical components — including the electric main winch and slewing motors housed inside the slewing column — deliver robust and efficient performance. For maximum energy efficiency, the cranes synchronize trolley and winch movements, minimizing power consumption. When parked, the electric trolley is safely stored inside the slewing column, protecting key components and extending equipment lifespan.

#reachanything Story

REMOTE FIRST – PART 1

As loyal PALFINGER customer, Daniel Ashville Louisy is interested to learn more about our new developments and innovative technologies. The last time Daniel visited PALFINGER in Austria, he became quite curious about our remote operated offshore cranes.

Now, we invited him to Norway to explore this innovative project in detail. Daniel visited our PALFINGER MARINE office in Bergen where he gained deeper insights into the development process and area of operation.

REMOTE FIRST – PART 2

In part two of our #reachanything story, Daniel traveled to Stavanger where he could meet our partner Aker BP at their facility. He learned more about remote crane operations and the future developments in the offshore industry.

Curious? Check out both parts of our #reachanything story!
