Historical timber crane

A PALFINGER crane on a MAN chassis is generally nothing special. Considering the fact that the timber crane PK 8100 has been built in 1978 and the MAN truck already in 1975, this is something special after all.

Adolf Ebner, owner of a saw mill in Faistenau (Austria), has bought the crane at that time to make his work and the wood handling easier. “Before my father did the whole work manually”, explained the son of Adolf Ebner, Bernhard, who has taken over the saw mill in the meantime together with his wife in third generation. It was very important to have a crane that could be mounted on the chassis in a space saving way to have enough loading area left. “My father back then did everything by himself. He went to take the round timber from woods or farmers, loaded it on his truck with the PK 8100 and carried it back to the saw mill. Here the wood has been treated and brought into the required form. By now things in wood processing are different. Nowadays we do not carry out the transport by ourselves, as that would not be competitive any more. For this purpose we hire forwarding agents.” But for all that Bernhard Ebner’s PK 8100 and the MAN are still in use for some applications. “Authorization has just been extended for one more year. Intense care pays well after years“, Ebner is convinced.
