The role of AI & Machine Learning Specialist within the Data Science Team is responsible for developing Artificial Intelligence, custom Machine Learning and Advanced Analytics solutions to solve hard problems in both technical and business domains. The position holder’s expertise lies in the application of descriptive methods, Machine Learning, and Generative AI to gain data-driven insights, model complex relationships, and increase the level of automation. The role works closely with other team members, domain experts from other parts of the PALFINGER organization, and external partners. This position requires a communicative, self-reliant, and hands-on person who has a passion for finding new technical solutions within a fast-evolving environment.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, prototype, industrialize, and deploy AI/ML solutions (including LLMs and custom models) for embedded, edge, and cloud environments; integrate them into PALFINGER products, telematics systems, and digital platforms while ensuring scalability, performance, robustness, monitoring, and market readiness
• Serve as the central AI/ML contact across product lines, engineering, and business domains; collaborate with internal teams and external partners; promote ML, Computer Vision, LLM, AI agent, and automation use cases; and foster an AI/ML Community of Practice
• Contribute to the PALFINGER AI/ML architecture by aligning data sources and semantics, selecting best-of-breed technologies, and supporting the development and implementation of governance frameworks
• Plan, execute, and monitor AI/ML and analytics activities; work closely with domain experts and stakeholders; coordinate external partners; and review project deliverables
• Monitor market developments and technological advancements, and incorporate relevant innovations into AI/ML solutions, professional practices, and personal development

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

• Completed degree in a technical field such as engineering, computer science, business informatics, or a comparable discipline, with experience in modern AI technologies including LLMs, AI agents, and orchestration frameworks
• Strong knowledge of programming languages, libraries, and tools such as Python, Scikit-learn, Pandas, and SQL, with an understanding of the complete AI/ML lifecycle from data preparation and modeling through deployment and monitoring
• Experience with data transformation, data platforms, APIs, and system integration; familiarity with software development practices and tools such as Git and CI/CD. Knowledge of Databricks, Microsoft Fabric, and cloud/PaaS/SaaS technologies such as Azure, AWS, or GCP is an advantage
• Experience with project management and agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban, combined with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, a high degree of independence and self-organization, strong quality awareness, and a collaborative team-player mentality; fluent English and confident negotiation skills in an international business environment

Minimum yearly gross salary according to the Austrian metal industry collective agreement is EUR 53,241.02 based on full-time employment. According to experience and qualification, we offer a market-conforming overpayment.
