TEC: Maximum Precision

For the lifts where the last centimeter decides.

Our technological flagship. TEC lifts heavy and works with a surgeon’s precision, with connected, software-driven assistance for the lifts other cranes can’t handle.

What TEC Gives You

Precision

The hook moves in a straight line and stops exactly where you stop. Glass, precast and machinery land on the mark – and on the same mark on the next cycle. Precision you can repeat, lift after lift.

Technology

The smartest control system we build. PALTRONIC 180 reads load, geometry and stability in real time. It powers assistance systems that no other PALFINGER range offers: Smart Control and Memory Position.

Technology Highlights

Lighter Boom. Steadier Load.

P-Profile

The teardrop-shaped P-Profile is torsion-resistant yet light. You get less deflection at full reach and more payload on the truck. Standard on every TEC.

The Brain Behind Every Lift

PALTRONIC 180

One control system reads load, boom geometry and stability in real time – and makes Smart Control, Memory Position and the Leveling Assistant possible. The same on every TEC.

Full Reach, Even With Half The Support

HPSC / HPSC-Plus

Stability is calculated from the actual position of each stabilizer. If space is tight and a support can’t extend fully, you still get the maximum safe load chart for that setup.

Up To 15 % More Power On The Jib

DPS-C / DPS-Plus

The Dual Power System increases lifting capacity on the fly jib. With DPS-C, this works continuously in every boom position, because the crane always knows the exact position of both crane and jib.

Loader crane with DPS

One Lever. A Straight Line.

Smart Control

Move the boom tip up, across or diagonally with a single lever. The crane coordinates main boom, knuckle boom and extensions in the background. That means less training and fewer corrections.

Back To The Same Spot. Every Time.

Memory Position

Save a position once, return to it at the push of a button. Repetitive lifts become identical lifts.

Remote control with memory position

Level In Seconds, Not Minutes

Leveling Assistant

The crane levels the truck for you. Set-up time goes down and stability goes up, before the first lift.

No More Guesswork On The Hook

WEIGH 2

See the load weight in real time, track material as you load or unload, and set a weight limit so the crane stops lifting at a defined value – for sensitive dismounting and controlled handling.

How It Works

How does the P-Profile boom give me more payload?

The teardrop cross-section resists torsion better than a conventional box profile of the same weight. That lets us build the boom system lighter without losing stiffness. Less deadweight on the crane means more payload on the truck and less deflection at full reach. Self-lubricating slide elements on the boom and fly jib extensions keep maintenance to a minimum. Standard on every TEC crane.

What does PALTRONIC 180 actually do?

It is the brain of the crane. Pressure sensors report how hard the crane is working, position sensors report where the boom, slewing gear and stabilizers are – and PALTRONIC 180 decides in real time what the crane may do next. Its computing power is what makes Smart Control, Memory Position and the Leveling Assistant possible. The architecture uses up to seven CAN buses and plug-and-play I/O modules instead of terminal boxes, which makes diagnosis and repair faster. Standard on every TEC crane of the current generation.

What is HPSC – and what does HPSC-Plus add?

HPSC (High Performance Stability Control) calculates stability from the actual position of every stabilizer. A partially extended support still gives you the maximum safe load chart for that setup, with no calibration before work and no guesswork.

HPSC-Plus adds optional modules:

  • LOAD uses the truck’s inclination to detect the ballast on the vehicle and unlocks extra outreach when the truck is loaded.
  • GEOM adds boom extension monitoring for an exact geometry model.
  • FSTAB measures the real force on each stabilizer instead of relying on a conservative calculated limit. This is valuable with narrow stabilizer widths or very heavy loads beside the truck.
How does DPS-C get up to 15 % more out of the fly jib?

Earlier DPS systems gave the fly jib full pressure only with the last crane extension retracted. DPS-C (“continuous”) measures the length of crane and jib (BEM-PJ) to know the exact position of every boom. It then sets the maximum hydraulic power the jib can take in each individual position. The gain is largest with the crane fully extended and the boom steep: up to 15 % more lifting moment than DPS-Plus. Optional on TEC models with fly jib.

How does Smart Control work?

Instead of operating main boom, knuckle boom and extensions separately, you move the boom tip with one lever – horizontally, vertically, diagonally or along a curve. The control system calculates the individual boom movements in the background. It works with up to eight extensions, with fly jib and with rope winch, and if the crane has the inclination sensor, truck tilt is compensated so movements are truly horizontal and vertical. Requires boom extension monitoring (BEM). Optional on every TEC crane – and available on no other PALFINGER loader crane range.

How precise is Memory Position?

Up to four crane positions can be saved and approached again with one or two levers. The system takes the complete crane geometry including fly jib into account and compensates for boom deflection under load and for the truck's inclination – so the same position is reached whether the hook is empty or loaded, with a maximum deviation of 20 cm. The remote control's geometry page shows direction and distance to the saved position. Slewing is controlled separately so you can react to obstacles. Optional on TEC cranes with PALTRONIC 180; not combinable with workman baskets.

What does the Leveling Assistant do?

The Leveling Assistant (P-STAB) extends all radio-controlled stabilizers step by step until each one touches the ground and the vehicle is level – with one lever, semi-automatically. Fine leveling to 0.1° is possible, and the system also handles vehicle height and retraction afterwards. Two modes: level to the calibrated HPSC inclination, or level to a perfectly vertical column for steep boom work. The operator remains responsible for correct set-up according to the operating manual. Requires PALTRONIC 180, inclination sensor and radio-controlled stabilizers.

How accurate is WEIGH 2?

To within about 5 %. The crane’s geometry, boom deflection and the dynamics of the lift all affect the reading, so a load measured at full reach can show a slightly different value than the same load close to the column. WEIGH 2 can tare and measure while the crane is moving, as long as the movement is steady. If you set a weight limit with PRELOAD, the crane slows to 25 % speed as it approaches the value – so approach sensitive lifts slowly.

Why is the TEC control valve different?

TEC cranes with continuous slewing use the LX-6 control valve, developed exclusively for PALFINGER. The spool is positioned electromechanically rather than hydraulically, which means no hysteresis, no dead stroke and the same response in the cold as in the warm. With up to 1,024 resolution steps it offers five to eight times finer control than conventional valves, with a repeatability of 0.1 %. This is what lets you set a load down by millimeters.

Applications

Complex lifting

Some lifts have more than one thing to watch: a load that has to clear a parapet, pass through an opening and land on a mark. Smart Control takes the boom geometry off your hands. Memory Position brings the crane back to the same point. HPSC gives you the load chart for the setup you actually have.

Heavy loads

TEC runs to 125 mt and 32,000 kg of lifting capacity. The P-Profile boom keeps its stiffness under full load, so a heavy pick at reach stays steady. DPS puts the hydraulic power where the lift needs it.

High reach

Long main booms and fly jibs with Power Link Plus take the hook over roofs and into upper floors. HPSC-Plus uses the truck's load and tilt to give you the most reach the ground allows. Memory Position gets you back to the same height on every cycle.

Installation work

Windows, facade elements, precast, steel: loads that are expensive to scratch and awkward to hold. Fine metering on the control valve and boom tip control let you set a load down by millimeters. The radio remote keeps you where you can see it.

Precision applications

Think of machine installation, glass, prefabricated units and work beside people. In these lifts, a hand’s width off means starting over, or worse. Memory Position puts the next piece exactly where the last one went. The fine control of the TEC valve lets you slow a heavy load to a crawl in the final centimeters.

Watch The TEC In Action

Is TEC the right range for you?

The questions we hear most from operators and fleet managers choosing between the three ranges.

What's the difference between TEC, MLT and SLD?

Same steel quality, same service network. What changes is the control electronics and what they unlock: SLD is the simple specification for everyday lifting. MLT adds the new control package for fleets whose cranes do different work every day. TEC runs PALTRONIC 180 and the LX-6 valve, and is the only range on which boom tip control, memory positions and every HPSC-Plus module are available. The three overlap in size, so you choose the class for your truck first and the range for your work second.

When does the extra precision actually pay off?

When the load is expensive to damage, when there are people under it, or when you have to put it in the same place many times a day. Glass, precast, machinery, steel, work close to facades. If most of your lifts are pallets onto a flat site, you're paying for systems you won't use, and MLT or SLD is the better buy.

Do I need a bigger truck for a TEC crane?

No. TEC runs from 23 to 125 mt, so the size class, not the range, decides the truck. The P-profile boom is lighter than a conventional boom of the same capacity, which leaves more payload on the vehicle.

Is TEC harder to run?

Easier, for most operators. Smart Control moves the boom tip in a straight line and the crane works out the boom geometry. Memory Position brings the crane back to a stored point. The learning curve is in trusting the systems, not in operating them. PALFINGER operator training and the VR2 simulator cover the switch.

Can I add the TEC systems to a crane I already own?

The assistance systems are factory options tied to the PALTRONIC 180 architecture and can’t be retrofitted to older cranes. Some equipment, such as the P7 remote and winch options, can be added to existing cranes, and WEIGH 2 can be retrofitted to TEC cranes with PALTRONIC 180 and the required position sensors. Your sales partner can tell you what applies to your model.

What does TEC cost compared with MLT?

Pricing comes from your sales partner, because it depends on the model, the equipment and the truck. What you're paying for on a TEC is the P-profile boom, the LX-6 valve and access to the full set of assistance options. If your work needs them, the saving is in fewer damaged loads and shorter cycles. If it doesn't, MLT gives you most of the performance for less.

Does TEC need more maintenance?

Less in one respect: the P-profile boom uses self-lubricating slide pads, so there are no grease points on the boom. Service intervals follow the same schedule as the rest of the portfolio. With PALFINGER Connected you see usage and service alerts per crane, and service contracts fix the cost.

How do I choose a TEC model?

Start with the heaviest lift you do regularly: the lifting moment it needs, and how far out you need to carry it. That gives you the size class. Then look at the truck, because the class has to match the chassis. Equipment comes last: fly jib, winch, remote, attachments. The model filter lets you set range, class and lifting moment together. If two models look right, a demo on your own truck will settle it faster than a spec sheet.
