If you need technical support and documents, then please give us a call.
You will also find wiring diagrams in our online portal for downloading.
Here is an important notice: There is an electrical connection and hydraulic diagram for the respective model of tail lift included with all PALFINGER Tail Lifts. They can be found right next to the circuit board in the main tube.
You can find help on the following items directly here:
- Identification and classification of the tail lifts
- Electrical and control system
- Hydraulics
- Cylinder setup and repair
- Emergency functions
- General maintenance and service tips
IDENTIFICATION AND CLASSIFICATION OF THE TAIL LIFT TYPE
Tail lifts are in most ways identical but always have small but important differences. Therefore it is very important to know exactly what lift you have in order to:
- Order the correct spare parts
- Find the correct wiring and hydraulics diagrams
- Replace the correct hydraulic parts etc.
The most important criteria here are:
- the lift capacity (e.g. 1000 kg for a standard load distance)
- the tail lift model (e.g. KUZF)
- the date of manufacturing (important for possible technical changes due to technological progress).
The respective type plate of your MBB PALFINGER tail lift always contains all this data. An example of this type plate is shown below.
You will find this type plate on the back of your platform (only MBB) and at the bottom on the mounting tube / main beam. MBB lifts will have the type plate at the top on the driver's side or on the underrun protection by the power pack for PALGATE lifts.
In addition, the inspection control booklet should always be carried in your vehicle's documents. It is needed for routine inspection according to the European machine norms and will be checked by a certified expert.
ELECTRIC AND CONTROL SYSTEM
The control systems of our tail lifts have been continuously optimized over the last years. This refers to both ergonomic aspects as well as economical and technical aspects. The benchmark here is the K-Plus control system, which can be used in all PALFINGER Tail Lifts series.
Current PALFINGER Tail Lifts controller models:
- K-Plus
- K1-Plus (special Athlet quattro, KL and rentfix)
- K-Basic (export only)
PALGATE:
- PBS 4 cylinder
- hydraulic ground tilt (old)
- electric ground tilt (new)
- PBS 2 cylinder
Hydraulics
The hydraulic system in PALFINGER Tail Lifts is reliable and was designed according to a tried and proven system that has been known for years. The mode of operation will be clear to anyone after just a few looks at the hydraulic system diagram. A look at our
legend is recommended as an aid.
Here you will find the hydraulic system diagrams of all our tail lifts.
Hydraulic system diagrams sorted by model:
H, K, Athlet Quattro series:
- standard
- hydraulic with 2 stabilizers
- hydraulic with swiveling underrun protection
Minifix / Athlet (2-cyl.) series:
- standard
KUZ series:

CYLINDER SETUP AND REPAIR
The cylinders of all our tail lifts are made by us exclusively in-house. This way we are able to offer you all components as spare parts and can continuously ensure and improve the quality that has been known for decades.
In order to show you the installation and removal of the cylinder in more detail, we have compiled several examples for you here in an illustrated guide.
Tilting ram installation / replacement of the seal kit
Guide for removal of the push rod with replacement of the seal kit
In the following, we will show you how you can replace a seal kit for our tilting rams. You can even do this directly on the vehicle without removing the entire cylinder. It will take about an hour for one person to do this.
EMERGENCY FUNCTIONS
In case of an emergency on the road, it is of absolute priority to remove the vehicle from the danger zone. With the control systems of PALFINGER Tail Lifts, it is very easy to shut down unnecessary consumers systematically thereby eliminating them as possible sources of the malfunction. That way, systematic troubleshooting is possible and the tail lift can be put back into its transport position as quickly as possible and taken to one of our partner and service companies.
Service mode / Emergency mode
Control systems of series K, K-Plus and K-1 Plus
Unplug the following connectors one after the other and check after each one whether the malfunction has been resolved*:
- J3: Warning lamps and foot switches
- J41: Sensors and switches (B13, B15 or B16)**
- J31: Manual cable control
- JK: Trunk lighting
- It is also recommended after each step to cut off the power to the circuit board one time for two seconds. This can be done by pulling off connector J1.
*Depending on the configuration, some connectors are only available as options.
**For retractable tail lifts, the tilting function is also disabled after pulling off the platform sensor.
GENERAL SERVICE ADVISOR
PALFINGER Tail Lifts are characterized by their high quality and longevity. It is not a rare sight to still see tail lifts from the early 90s still in use each day proving their worth.
The foundation of optimum performance is qualified and maintenance on a regular basis. It starts with simple servicing, with lubrication of the bearings and checking the cap bolts. It continues with checking the hydraulic hoses and hydraulic oil, right up to the electronics.
On this page, we will show you some useful and recommended tips with the request that you take them into consideration when using and maintaining PALFINGER Tail Lifts.
SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE
Generally speaking you should perform maintenance on your tail lift as the need arises and make sure to service it regularly. Therefore, all pivot points should be greased on a regular basis.
RECOMMENDED HYDRAULIC OILS
An overview of the hydraulic oils that are used. Biodegradable oils are also given here.
B15 mode of operation
Explains the mode of operation of the sensors on the platform and their interplay with the tilt switch and the circuit board. This only involves the square tilt sensors B15 and not the tilt sensors B16 with colored potting compound.

GOALS AND CONTENT OF PALFINGER TRAINING SESSIONS
In our fast-paced world of continuous change, technical equipment and facilities are changing just as quickly – and with greater frequency than was once the case. Ongoing improvements are continuously being integrated into technical systems because basic components and electronic devices are now available with higher levels of capacity. New materials are replacing older ones, while more modern production technologies are resulting in greater precision and better quality.
Naturally, the same applies to our tail lifts. The best example is our innovative electronic control system which is not only far more superior to the older model, but also has more functions. This of course also increases the demands made on the specialists in our service centers who have to master the changes within the different tail lift models in ever shorter time periods. PALFINGER therefore organizes – right on site – ongoing professional and comprehensive training sessions to keep everyone on a high skilled level!
By using models, circuit diagrams, technical data sheets and diagnostics programs, our experts explain how equipment is constructed and how to troubleshoot more accurately supported by extensive training material.
At the end of the training, PALFINGER issues each participant a certificate stating that he or she has successfully completed the training. The participant is then considered a technical expert and is authorized to make regular inspections on tail lifts. The training is designed for specialized skilled staff who will perform maintenance and repair work on vehicles and vehicle accessories.
Staff participating in the training are already familiar with circuit diagrams and/or hydraulic systems and do repair work on vehicles or electro-hydraulic facilities. Trainers thus focus on the hydraulics and electronics of tail lifts. The training is supplemented by the use of demonstration materials, such as lift and closing cylinders, power packs with motor and pump, as well as valves, control boards, operating consoles and connectors.
