P 280 CK: Fully electric in Vienna's city center

11.10.2023

Csernohorszky was one of the first companies in Austria to test PALFINGER's P 280 CK eDRIVE zero-emission access platform. During a nighttime operation in Vienna's city center, steel wires for public lighting were replaced.

Michael Häupler has been working for the traditional Viennese company Csernohorszky for over 33 years. He has spent 31 years of his professional life taking care of public lighting in the inner-city area of Vienna and has gained a lot of experience with different aerial work platforms. The latest work assignment in the Krottenbachstraße saw the first use of an emission-free access platform from PALFINGER, the P 280 CK eDRIVE, which was mounted on an all-electric VOLVO FE chassis.

Emission-free and whisper-quiet
"For Vienna, this is actually the perfect piece of equipment to use," Michael Häupler explained right at the start of the job. Two essential aspects play a decisive role for him here: no noise pollution and no pollutant emissions. Especially when working in urban areas, and even more so at night, the noise pollution caused by the operation of an aerial work platform can become a problem for many residents. In some areas, such as near hospitals, night work with conventional aerial work platforms is sometimes even completely prohibited. With the P 280 CK eDRIVE, both are reduced to a minimum, as the chassis is fully electric and the noise pollution caused by the operation of the platform is minimal. "In terms of performance, there's no difference between diesel or electric - it's just much quieter," Häupler continues. In fact, in terms of the power spectrum, there are no differences between a conventional aerial work platform and an electrically powered one. The only thing to consider is the range of the vehicle. However, at around 200 kilometers, this is more than sufficient for Csernohorszky's purposes. The vehicle is charged either during the work assignment or afterwards at the company headquarters.

All-rounder with range
The combination of an all-electric chassis with a P 280 CK immediately convinced Michael Häupler. Thanks to the maximum working height of 28 meters and a horizontal reach of around 18 meters, he saves himself many position changes and can work on several wires or lamps in succession. Thanks to its compact design the aerial work platform can also be set up in the tightest of spaces with maximum reach. The robust aluminum work basket with 300 kg basket load ensures that both required tools and other materials can be taken up easily and safely. In summary, Michael Häupler said at the end of his working day with the P 280 CK: "I simply like this machine. Because it's so quiet. And I love it!".
