PK 165.002 TEC 7: heavy-duty crane and the art of flexibility

03.08.2020

With the TEC-range PALFINGER offers powerful crane models for complex, specialized operations. A visible feature is the polygonal P-Profile. The lightweight design ensures that the extension boom system remains highly stable all the way to the boom tip.

Theater curtain on

This was particularly useful for the experienced crane operator Berend Meijer from the company Koninklijke Saan in the Netherlands. Berend operates an award-winning PK 165.002 TEC 7 with a fly jib mounted on a Volvo FH 10x4. During the two-day operation, a stage curtain was built from three wooden elements. The difficulty was not the load itself, but the access via the narrow truck loading ramp at the rear entrance of the AFAS Circustheater in Scheveningen, Den Haag. Precision was the key.

The 1.8 meter wide and 13.5 meter long elements each weighing 1.8 tons had to be brought up one floor higher to the stage of the theatre from the rear entrance . It's a difficult task at first glance, but at second glance it is a perfect challenge for using the exclusive PALFINGER Power Link Plus. This is the double-linkage system from PALFINGER, which noticeably increases the lifting power of the crane thanks to the special connection between the knuckle and main boom, as well as the main boom and crane column. The knuckle boom can be overextended by an additional 15 degrees and further overextending is possible with the use of a fly jib. Berend solved this challenge with his broad experience and with Power Link Plus and completed the job in less than two days to the full satisfaction of the management of the AFAS Circustheater.

From a melting furnace to an art object

"Since I have had my multifunctional truck, I have been transporting and placing machines and artifacts of all kinds quickly and reliably. The extraordinary flexibility I gained with the PK 165.002 TEC 7 makes my work very cool." , says Berend with a big smile . " I just enjoy my work because of the variety, one moment I lift pre fab elements to build a complete house, the other moment I lift a huge heavy concrete kitchen counter from a narrow street through the window at the rear side of a typical Dutch house near the canal in Amsterdam. Or I'm standing in the middle of a factory where a furnace has to be placed exactly to the centimeter."

Wilfred van de Blaak, Commercial Manager for the crane rental department at Koninklijke Saan: "Our new PK 165.002 TEC 7 is multifunctional." The entire truck with the crane is engineered in such a way that it is suitable for simple transport as well as complex lifting activities. Thanks to the front stabilizer on the truck chassis, the continuous slewing PK 165.002 TEC 7 achieves a working range of 360 degrees with even more ease. This makes even the most difficult places accessible. "The loader crane often proves to be a better alternative to a telescopic crane, especially in the narrow streets of Amsterdam."

Light enough for the city center

Another reason for the new acquisition of the PK 165.002 TEC 7 in July 2019 was the increased use of construction projects in the inner cities of the Netherlands. In Amsterdam in particular, the range and flexibility are needed. As well as the special configuration and total dead weight of the entire truck was the key for Koninklijke Saan. So jobs in the city centers could be done without a special 45-ton exemption.
