Become our expert in cyber-physical systems (CPS) within the IoT & Data Science Competence Team, which is part of the PALFINGER 21st Competence Center! Your ewill contribute to PALFINGER's corporate IoT & Data Science architecture. Together with your expert team colleagues, the data engineer and the data scientist, you push forward the ultimate goal to enable data-driven business models and information-based decisions for all divisions within the PALFINGER Global Organization. 

You are responsible for the project management of technical proof of concepts (PoCs) and the implementation of domain knowledge from the smart products / smart services space as well as the smart factory / operations technology space. In this vein, you collaborate with external partners and consult internal stakeholder. Your goal is to ensure the knowledge transfer between the competence team and PALFINGER's domain experts. Your expertise lies within mechanical and automation engineering, physical model-building (digital twins) and in-the-loop simulations while maintaining a good understanding of sensory data and its semantics.

  • Lead for technical proof of concepts (PoC) / feasibility studies / functional prototypes
  • Facilitate expertise in mechanical engineering / automation engineering / mechatronics
  • Management of contextual knowledge for machine data analytics / digital representations 
  • Definition of data semantics / physical model building / extraction of domain knowledge
  • Requirements engineering for IoT strategy / cyber-physical systems (CPS) incl. mobile asset management / parameter optimization / predictive maintenance 
  • Requirements engineering for Industrial IoT (IIoT) strategy / cyber-physical production systems (CPPS) / Industry 4.0
  • Identification & documentation of use cases / scenarios / solutions 


  • Min. 3 years of working experience in industrial and/or academic environment 
  • University degree in mechanical engineering, automation, mechatronics or similar with focus on simulation / physical modelling and a basic understanding of software and data engineering
  • Talent for agile project management 
  • Experience with digital twin methodology / in-the-loop simulations
  • Experience with mathematical modelling of physical effects such as fatigue effects, static & dynamic mechanical computations, hydraulics, finite element methods, etc. 
  • Optional experience with data modelling (JSON, XML, OPC, OPC-UA)
  • Optional experience with CAD (CREO), FEM (ANSYS) and MATLAB/Simulink
  • Optional experience with edge devices / embedded systems / PLCs / ECUs
  • Optional experience with C/C++ and IEC 61131-3 languages, IEC 61508 functional safety
  • Open and communicative, willingness to learn, self-reliant 
  • Excellent business English and German 
  • Willingness to travel up to 30 %

Minimum gross salary according to Austrian metal industry collective agreement is EUR 42.663,18 p.a. 
We are willing to overpay according to training and qualification.
