Job Summary

The Senior Accountant is a member of the finance department, and will prepare financial reports, analysis and presentations that provide management with critical information used to make decisions that directly impact the company’s operations. In this role, you will be responsible for product costs and working with other departments to help cost products for best margins. The ability to analyze financial and operational data and report findings in a clear and concise format are important as well as the ability to navigate through the ERP system and utilize MS Office effectively. It is the expectation that the Senior Accountant will develop a thorough understanding of the company, including key drivers, market conditions, business trends, etc., in order to perform profitability analysis to help uncover potential opportunities or risks. This position reports to the Finance Manager.

Primary Responsibilites

  • Analyze monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet and cash) and prepare journal entries as needed.
  • Lead and manage all month end/quarter-end closing activities, including closing modules and running reporting in ERP system, preparation of journal entries, reconciliations and additional KPI reporting.  
  • Daily Bank Reconciliations
  • Prepare and review financials, upload and input financials into corporate reports.
  • Develop financial presentations for local and area management meetings
  • Quarterly IFTA tax reporting and Educational Service Commission reporting.
  • Maintain financial plan/forecast models in MS Excel. Ensure accuracy of model and develop solid assumptions supporting the forecast.
  • Prepare and execute other financial analyses and special projects such as margin analyses, expense analyses, trend analyses by cost center and product line and other analyses related to business unit performance.
  • Backup to the Finance Manager when needed.  
  • Collaborate with all members of the finance group to ensure the accurate completion of all necessary assignments of the department
  • Product costs.  Update and review standards.  Analyze standard vs actual costs on a monthly basis, understanding of gross margins on all product lines.  Be able to determine Labor/Material/Overheads and what areas are the key drivers in product profit.
  • Perform such other responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time as they relate to the finance

Education and Experience


  • Bachelors in Business (e.g. Accounting, Finance or Economics)
  • 5 years of financial/accounting experience in a manufacturing environment. 


  • Accounting experience in either public or private industry.
  • Advanced degree
  • Cost Accounting experience
