Palfinger is searching for an R&D Mechanical Engineer to join the team in Oklahoma City, OK. We are located at 341 NW 122nd Street, Oklahoma City, OK, 73114. This position reports to the R&D Engineer Lead. The R&D Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for designing systems and components to support existing and new Palfinger Aerial Lifts. Additionally, this position will produce specifications for the design, development, manufacture, and installation of new or modified mechanical components and systems. This engineer will work in a team environment with a focus on creating new componentry or entire aerial lifts with the assistance of other members of the R&D team.

Responsibilities

  • Designs custom aerial lift mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems for all product lines.
  • Performs complex load and kinematic design calculations of aerial unit designs.
  • Uses Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to support design functions.
  • Oversees design and fabrication of prototype parts and systems.
  • Researches custom solutions to fit specific customer needs.
  • Uses 3D and 2D CAD tools to produce models, drawings schematics, and other supporting documentation.
  • Uses engineering skills and experience to check the design work of peers.
  • Creates bills of materials (BOMs) and parts lists.
  • Prepares sketches, mark-ups, and written and/or verbal instructions for other drafters and engineers.
  • Assists Truck Systems Engineering with trouble shooting when required.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams throughout the complete product development cycle using a standard new product introduction process.
  • Creates budgets, timelines and specifications with customers and managers.
  • Works with potential suppliers to source new parts.
  • Presents designs to peers, managers and customers.
  • Prepares and conducts test procedures for evaluating new designs and parts.
  • Provides technical advice to internal and external customers.
  • Prepares engineering documents for input into an ERP database.
  • Provides guidance for maintaining and modifying equipment to ensure it is safe, reliable, and efficient.
  • Works with Manufacturing/Operations to build new aerial assemblies and to troubleshoot the fabrication and assembly of daily orders when required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred, MET considered with experience.
  • 5-8 years of Mechanical Engineering experience.
  • Excellent analytic, scientific, and problem solving skills, and the initiative to contribute these skills to the team
  • Willingness to continuously learn and improve.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of 3D CAD modeling, Creo software a plus.
  • Experience performing FEA simulations to provide real-world answers.
  • Complete assigned tasks within a specified time frame and utilizing sound time and project management techniques.
  • Successfully plan and execute large and small scale projects.
  • Ability to take and record manual measurements in an industrial setting.
  • Possess outstanding mechanical aptitude.
  • Willingness to perform own drafting of designs.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing and engineering processes.
  • Ability to travel 5% and possibly overseas.
