A loader crane on its way in a semi-desert country
Recently PALFINGER delivered a strong and very flexible ready to operate truck with a loader crane to Djibouti, Africa. The first crane in this country is used as support for the maintenance and development of WASH facilities (WASH: water sanitation and hygiene).
Great depths to drinking water
The multifaceted truck is an essential ingredient for the success of getting drinking water in this region. Especially because Djibouti is a country with sub-tropical desert climate. The available water resources are at very great depths and are difficult to mobilize and exploit. The average borehole depth is 200 m, but can be as deep as 500 m in some areas. The length of the drainage columns for the well can become considerable, as well as their weight, which can reach 10 tons for certain water points. Especially for that reason, the availability of a truck in combination with a reliable loader crane, like the PK 23500 from PALFINGER, which has a high lifting capacity, is essential to get the job done. With every meter, it's a matter of being there with full attention and power. That is exactly what the PALFINGER loader crane easily accomplishes.
Difficult to access terrain
In addition, the truck is used to transport pumping equipment such as generators, pumps and drain pipes. Exactly the equipment that is needed on site. The incredible effort for all that should not be underestimated. The construction site is often really isolated and difficult to reach over the stony and especially sandy tracks. But thanks to the incredibly well-built overall truck concept from the PALFINGER Mounting Competence Center (MCC), the truck is able to cope with the particularly rough conditions. It helps strengthen the technical and logistical capacities on site in order to improve the supply of drinking water to the vulnerable population who has been severely affected for two decades by chronic drought due to climate change.
