Troubleshooting

Keeping your equipment up and on the road is priority number one.  When using our troubleshooting guide, assisted by our dedicated technical service team, you can feel confident that your liftgate will be repaired correctly and in a timely manner.

NOTE: Always use a digital voltmeter when checking voltage to determine if you have sufficient power to operate the liftgate.

The Gate Does Not Open Up
  • Voltage—minimum 10 volts at the motor when closing  or UP function is engaged for 10 seconds with the gate in the stored position

  • Check if both valves on the cylinder are energized
    • If not, check the power supply to switches and signal line to valves while activating the OPEN function
  • Valves are energized—check the grounding of the valves
    • Valves are energized, but the platform still does not open
    • Check the coil for damage and magnetic function
    • Check the gas shocks for damage or seizing
      • Check open/close cylinder for damage or leaks
The Gate is Not Lowering Down
  • Voltage—minimum 10 volts at the motor while activating the UP function with the gate in the upper position
  • Raise the gate just under the pump and motor mounting plate, remove the hydraulic line at the pump and remove the vent cap on the reservoir. Place the line inside the hole to vent and press the DOWN button on the controller.
    • First, ensure all obstacles are clear and the operator is safely clear
    • If the gate lowers with this test, then the problem is in the pump assembly, remove and replace the pump and motor assembly
      • See the illustration on page 13 of the troubleshooting manual
  • Check if the lift/lower valve on the cylinder is energized
  • If not, check the power supply to the UP/DOWN switch and the signal line to the lift/lower valve while activating the lowering function

    • Check for voltage while activating function

  • The valve is energized – check the grounding of the valve and make sure that the valve is shifted over (you will hear a click)

    • Pictures on page 14 of the troubleshooting manual

  • The valve is energized, but the platform still does not lower down

  • Check  if the open/close valve is energized–it should NOT be energized

  • Check if the flow control valve is contaminated and/or the cylinder is damaged

The Gate is Not Raising Up
  • The motor does not run

    • Check the voltage—a minimum of 10 volts at the motor after 10 seconds of holding the switch for the closing function

      • Deadhead the gate in the actual position

    • Check that the power supply to the UP/DOWN switch and the voltage at the signal line to the motor solenoid while activating the UP function

    • Check the motor solenoid

      • If it is getting power (a small connector at the solenoid has voltage) but you do not hear a click, the motor solenoid should be replaced/changed

    • You hear it click—check to see if the motor gets power

      • If yes, check that the motor has the correct function

  • The motor runs, but the platform does not raise

    • Check the lift cylinder for damage and the chain for broken chain links

      • See drawings on pages 15-16 of the troubleshooting manual

The Gate is Not Closing
  • Check voltage— a minimum of 10 volts at the motor while holding the UP function for 10 seconds (Deadhead)

  • The motor is not running

    • Check the power supply to the OPEN/CLOSE and the UP/DOWN switch and the voltage at the motor solenoid

    • Check the open/close valve while activating the UP function

    • Check the motor solenoid

      • If it is getting power, but you do not hear a click, the motor solenoid should be replaced/changed

    • If you hear it click, check if the motor gets power

      • If yes, check the motor for the correct function

  • The motor is running, but the platform does not close

    • Check for power at the open/close valve

    • Check the cylinder for leaking, loose fittings or contaminated restrictor

    • Check the hydraulic oil level and low-level oil in the reservoir–fill up and activate the closing function
