The Materials Supervisor oversees the shipping and delivery of materials (material flow) and warehouse personnel. Working mainly in a warehouse setting and supporting both manufacturing and customers by managing the loading of trucks, setting up delivery routes and unloading material. Interacts with carriers, suppliers, warehouses, custom brokers and others involved in the shipping and delivering of our products.

 

Job Summary

This position is also responsible for verifying and keeping records (information flow) on incoming and outgoing shipments: shipping notices, bills of lading, invoices, orders, and other records to determine shipping priorities, work assignments, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and transportation rates/levels of service.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for outgoing shipping activities to ensure Quality, Accuracy, and condition of shipments
  • Manages Outbound Shipment Schedule and coordinates with Sales and Customers to determine space requirements and position of shipment on trucks and lays out the position of the shipment
  • Inspects loading operations to ensure compliance with shipping specifications and seals loaded boxcars, containers and truck doors
  • Inspects material handling equipment for defects and notifies quality personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair
  • Maintains PIT maintenance report
  • Directs movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage (inside and outside) and work areas
  • Compiles records of items on backorder and fulfills as soon as available
  • Posts weight and shipping charges
  • Prepares bills of lading
  • Manage a team of skilled material handlers and coordinate their workload/responsibilities to achieve the established departmental/organizational goals
  • Assist material handlers in shipping and receiving activities
  • Maintain a Continuous Improvement Culture
  • Establish, maintain and report KPIs for Shipping, Receiving, Put away (dock to stock) and Inventory accuracy

Qualifications

  • 5 years of logistics/shipping & receiving coordinating experience
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing environment, distribution center or a related field
  • Prior experience in managing large teams with diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent planning and time management skills
  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access). VBA Experience preferred
  • Knowledge of industry health and safety laws. OSHA Regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic Lean Manufacturing/Lean Logistics principles
