Logistics competence from SCHENKER - transport logistics from PALFINGER

"Global presence in logistics begins at home!" is one of the key statements of Schenker Deutschland AG. For the region Chemnitz, "at home" means premises of 40,000 m² and a modern administration building located right next to the motorway A4. The office is integrated into the Schenker network, which operates worldwide. Besides integrated logistics services, it offers customers special transport possibilities, such as those for the lumber industry. But these jobs have nothing to do with the transport of logs!

We are talking here about nationwide shipments of garden sheds and sauna kits to do-it-yourself stores, lumberyards and end consumers. The director of Transports Germany at the Chemnitz office, Torsten Hinrichs, talks about this part of business: "In October last year, we bought a vehicle with a special semi-trailer for these services, which was additionally equipped with a Crayler F3 all-wheel drive forklift from PALFINGER. The vehicle, a Mercedes Actros 1843, is on the road in tramp shipping all week long. As a rule, do-it-yourself stores or dealers have equipment for loading and unloading. But things are completely different when you go to an end customer. In these cases, I have to secure the success of the delivery independently of circumstances and the type of terrain - and that is why we chose this all-wheel drive forklift." PALFINGER introduced Crayler transportable forklifts to the European market back in 1998. In the meantime, they have become a part of the standard equipment on lorries not only for many shipping companies, but also in the construction material business, beverage delivery industry and various other industries.

Vehicles in the F3 series convince users with their superb ability to operate on any terrain, including uneven surfaces. Inclines of up to 30% or swampy areas do not pose a problem for these machines. Crayler forklifts are easy to operate and can be redocked on the back of the lorry with very little effort. Both their compact design and outstanding ratio of empty weight to load capacity are advantageous in practical use. The central position of the driving seat provides safety and an excellent all-round view. The operating levers have been placed laterally in accordance with ergonomic requirements, allowing the driver to concentrate fully on the loading and unloading operation. The director of the vehicle fleet at the Chemnitz office, Dieter Köhler, is also delighted with the acquisition: "My employees are equally enthusiastic about their new lorry and the transportable forklift.

The forklift is easy to operate, and according to the drivers the all-wheel drive in particular has a number of advantages. Deliveries to end customers make up about 80% of the work. Nothing is possible unless you have a transportable forklift with you. Even if the customer can arrange for a forklift: the waiting times, the terrain and all of the other unforeseeable circumstances at the site would soon ruin all of our scheduling, drastically increasing costs."
