Not only the improvement of manufacturing methods, processes and systems in terms of quality, costs and environmental compatibility is on the agenda at PALFINGER but also the continuous product research and development.
In addition to environmentally sustainable manufacturing, usage and disposal, the aim of every PALFINGER product is to reduce the burden on the environment during use. With new products and developments in the spheres of electronics, materials, processing and service PALFINGER intends to continue in the future to strengthen its position as a technology leader.
Customer Safety
The safety of the people who work with PALFINGER products has top priority. Our products offer a broad array of safety features that help to prevent accidents. Particular mention should be made of:
- the hydraulic load moment limitation system OSK
- the electronic system PALTRONIC (protects crane from capacity overload)
- the transport position monitoring and outrigger and stabiliser monitoring
- the system for limitation of lifting power dependent on slewing angle (SHB).
To date only overload protection has been incorporated as a mandatory feature of the safety standards of the European Union. The new standard EN 12999:2009 also provides for mandatory transport position monitoring and outrigger and stabiliser monitoring. PALFINGER always takes the fulfilment of safety standards a step further. Thus the SHB system is offered on an optional basis and EN 12999 conform cranes are also sold in non-EU Member States.
Environmentally Sound Products
Sustainability is also a driver for innovation, and markets in developed countries have increasingly embraced environmental and social aspects in purchasing decisions. This is the reason why PALFINGER also integrated sustainability into the formalised innovation process.
Climate protection is also ensured through lighter products - the use of aluminium and high-grade steel reduces the payload of vehicles and helps our customers save fuel and emissions. Addtional environmentally friendly features such as the Load Sensing for cranes, which adjusts the engine performance to the required lifting power, as well as electric motors also reduce the energy consumption and the noise in operation.
The sustainable use of PALFINGER products also necessitates that these products be designed of such high quality that maintenance and repair costs are kept as low as possible. Thus natural resources will be saved and
the total cost of ownership minimised for customers.
The maintenance-free extension system for truck-mounted knuckle boom cranes developed by PALFINGER not only relieves the environment and maintenance costs for customers but also in production, since there is no danger of environmental pollution at the workplace due to the use of biodegradable grease for initial lubrication.
Besides anti-corrosion measures, further safety devices and sealing systems for the reduction of maintenance and servicing costs PALFINGER is once more ahead of its time with the new diangostic software PALDIAG.NET. The software makes it possible to configure all PALFINGER PALTRONIC and remote control systems with remote access via PALREMOTE and saves unnecessary time and mileage in order to support final customers.
The reduction of hazardous substances is also being pushed with the increased use of "bio hydraulic oil" for PALFINGER products. This is based on synthetic esters and, in comparison to conventional hydraulic oil, biodegrades very quickly. If the hydraulic system of a product happens to leak, the risks and burdens to the environment are therefore minimal.
It is not only the safety and eco-friendly design that matter to PALFINGER but also the purpose for which our products are used. Sustainable markets such as that of recycling, forestry and agriculture, wind crafts, eco-energy market (renewable energy sources) or fully automated wheelchair access systems open up new diversification opportunities for us.
