With the development of DPS – Dual Power System PALFINGER is once again taking an innovative step in crane engineering and is also underlining its position as world market and technology leader.
Crane customers mainly set two requirements for a knuckle-boom crane: they wish to combine the greatest-possible lifting capacity with maximum outreach. Up until now it has only been possible to meet this requirement by means of a compromise solution – either heavy-duty working or maximum outreach. With the Dual Power System PALFINGER has now succeeded in combining both customer requirements in one crane model.
If the crane is fitted with a fly jib and the new DPS system, it is possible to increase the lifting moment in a wide range of different crane and fly jib combinations by up to 70%! This new development enormously expands the crane’s applications and offers the crane operator numerous possibilities for successfully handling a wide range of jobs.
The new PK 85002 Performance is the first PALFINGER crane to be equipped with DPS. Availability of this system will be extended in future to further crane models in combination with fly jibs. The technical concept behind DPS represents a cleverly devised combination of modern crane technology and the PALFINGER - Paltronic system.

How it works
The fly-jib can be operated with two pressure ranges through the use of a special, electronic overload protection system.
If the last extension boom of the crane is fully extended (normal operation), the lifting capacity of the crane will be reduced to prevent overload. If the last extension boom of the crane is retracted (DPS activated), the system automatically switches to the high pressure range, and thus uses the maximal lifting capacity of the fly-jib.
The extension boom system of the crane is monitored via a gear shifting gate that registers the position of the last extension boom and notifies the electronics accordingly.
The use of the series equipped sequential control on the extension boom system on the PALIFNGER cranes for heavy loads enables this unrivalled technical solution.
